Weddings, they're some of the most stressful times in a person's life, its no wonder its traditional for people to take a long vacation immediately after the ceremony.
Honeymooning has changed a bit over the years, popular destinations are often being replaced with more elaborate and exotic getaways. But not always... Many people take their honeymoons in places of sentimental value, such as the city the couple met. There is an increasing trend of people taking honeymoons in unexpected places, for example, safari's in Africa and mountain climbing.
That said the traditional romantic getaway is certainly not dead, one popular spot for honeymoons is the Caribbean, honeymooners flock to tropical resorts on Jamaica, St. Maartin, St. Thomas, the Bahamas, or see them all aboard a cruise ship. All of the major cruise lines offer special honeymooner packages,so be sure to mention that when booking your trip. If wedding is during the more popular times, be sure to book your trip well in advance if possible.
Some say that the word honeymoon is as old as ancient Babylon, when the father of the bride would supply him with as much mead as he could drink for a month, in an attempt to make him more virile. The mead being made from honey and the moon symbolizing a month. The Old English dictionary however claims that while a new marriage starts pleasant sweet and golden, it soon wanes like the moon.
